Practice Pointers
We all know that practice time can sometimes turn into a battle of wills. Practice Pointers is a forum we hope will give you a place to share motivational techniques and help make practicing more fun.
This month’s special pointer: Don’t overdo your practice sessions. If you have an hour to practice, and you find you can go the entire time without getting tired, that is great! However, if you get to a point in your practice session where you are getting tired or frustrated, take a break. You will find you can accomplish more when you come back feeling refreshed.
Do you have a "practice pointer" that works for you? Share it with Cleff Notes, in care of Marcus Walker at mlwalk@iwon.com or drop by the Walker-West Music Academy front desk.

Walker-West Music Academy Presents JamFest 2005

Don’t miss it! Get ready for our biggest celebration of music and the community. An evening of elegance, excitement, and extraordinary music which will take place on April 7, 2005 beginning at 6:30PM at the Minnesota History Center located at 345 Kellogg Boulevard West, St. Paul.

JamFest 2005 will feature a first-class catered dinner at the Minnesota History Center, with a double concert headlined by jazz pianist Bobby Lyle. He has worked with countless well known greats such as Sly and the Family Stone, Al Jarreau, and Anita Baker. In addition, Lyle received an Emmy Award nomination for his musical direction of Bette Middler’s Diva Las Vegas. JamFest is the musical celebration which helps support our annual scholarship campaign, enabling Walker-West to grant the largest amount of scholarship awards of any private music institution in the state of Minnesota. Walker-West Music Academy’s scholarship program plays an intricate part of perpetuating academic and social development, increased life skills, and fostering life-long appreciation for the arts.

Walker-West provides scholarship awards in two categories; to low-income families displaying financial need, and to students based on merit and artistic achievement. Walker-West Music Academy provides training in all styles of music ranging from classical to gospel to jazz and is one of three schools in Minnesota fully accredited by the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts. The commitment to community outreach and development is visible in the performance experience of its faculty, as well as its individual students and ensemble groups. Our programs are designed to develop pride, leadership, and the ability to work collaboratively with others.

Our faculty, comprised of 26 highly experienced and talented music teachers, are committed to the school's philosophy of encouraging students to achieve excellence, confidence and pleasure through music.

In the midst of state budget cuts and music programs being lost, private institutions such as Walker-West are stepping in to fill the void. Help us make this event a true success……..come celebrate Jam Fest 2005!
